NEx Releases Featured Talk by Vicki Brown: Models for Design of GFRP Reinforcement for Crack Control in Slabs-on-Ground

At the ACI 2025 Spring Convention in Toronto, ON, NEx hosted a technical workshop titled “Design of GFRP-Reinforced Slabs-on-Ground and Paving.” Among the 11 featured speakers, Dr. Vicki L. Brown presented “Models for Design of GFRP Reinforcement for Crack Control in Slabs-on-Ground.” In this session, Dr. Brown examined how modeling strategies can be used to effectively control shrinkage and temperature-induced cracking, offering critical insight into the application of GFRP reinforcement where current ACI guidance remains limited.

Dr. Vicki L. Brown, P.E., is a nationally recognized expert in civil engineering with decades of experience in the application of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites for concrete structures. She is Professor Emeritus at Widener University, where she twice held the title of Distinguished University Professor. A Fellow of ACI, Dr. Brown has led key code development efforts as Chair of ACI Committee 440C and the 440H subcommittee responsible for ACI 440.11-22. Her work bridges rigorous research with practical design strategies, advancing the use of GFRP reinforcement for more durable and resilient slab systems.
