NEx Releases Featured Talk by Alireza Asadian: "GFRP Bar Use in Slab-on-Ground Applications: Benefits & Case Studies"

At the ACI 2025 Spring Convention in Toronto, ON, NEx hosted a technical workshop titled “Design of GFRP-Reinforced Slabs-on-Ground and Paving.” Dr. Alireza Asadian, one of 11 featured speakers, presented a foundational session titled “GFRP Bar Use in Slab-on-Grade Applications: Benefits & Case Studies.” In this presentation, Dr. Asadian introduces the mechanical properties and current standards surrounding GFRP reinforcement, setting the stage for broader industry understanding.

Drawing on more than a decade of research and field experience, he shares practical case studies demonstrating the use of GFRP bars in slab-on-grade construction. The session highlights key benefits including corrosion resistance, reduced material handling, faster construction, and long-term cost efficiency. Tailored for engineers, specifiers, and contractors, Dr. Asadian’s talk offers valuable insights into how GFRP can serve as a nonmetallic alternative to traditional steel reinforcement in modern concrete applications.
