NEx Releases Featured Talk by Will Gold: "A Rational Design Approach for using GFRP Reinforcement for Slabs-on-Ground."
At the ACI 2025 Spring Convention in Toronto, ON, NEx organized a workshop on "Design of GFRP-Reinforced Slabs-on-Ground and Paving." William Gold, one of 11 featured speakers in the series, presented a technical deep dive titled “A Rational Design Approach for Using GFRP Reinforcement for Slabs-on-Ground.” In this presentation, Gold addressed the engineering challenge of replacing steel with glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) bars in slabs-on-ground, and outlined how to do so with confidence and clarity. Drawing on decades of field experience and standards leadership, Gold walked through a rational methodology for sizing and spacing GFRP bars, using guidance from ACI PRC 360-10 and the newly released MNL-6 Recommended Practice Guidelines for FRP Bars in Pre-Engineered Projects. His talk offered proven techniques for achieving structural performance and durability using GFRP, tailored for both seasoned professionals and those new to FRP materials.
